Etiowo “T” Usoro wanted to make an impact on the world. When he learned about Health Informatics, T saw it as an opportunity to radically change the future of the healthcare industry.
“There’s just so many opportunities in the healthcare field to be able to fill in the gaps of what’s missing,” he said. “I’m hoping to push our way to that Utopian end-goal of (preventative care).”
As a student in the Master’s of Health Informatics program at the University of Michigan School of Information, T is able to learn in the classroom, and get real world experience at Michigan Medicine, where he works as a Healthcare Informatics Data Analyst.

Public health informatics is the application of computer science and information technology to public health practice, research and learning. This video uses the metaphor of building a house to show how informaticians build an information system working closely with programmers, network and data base administrators, security specialists, and Web designers. See an example of informatics at work in CDC’s FluView Interactive, a series of dynamic pictures that allow any Internet user to access influenza (flu) information collected by CDC’s monitoring systems.
